Peque-Peque

River-travel in the Amazon Basin is usually by small panga pushed by peque-peque, a home-made propeller fixed to a 15 foot metal pole and spun by a Briggs and Stratton four-stroke poached from a junked US lawnmower. They work great for shallow landings, just watch the prop when it's out of the water, which seems to be about half the time. Most of our travel was aboard peque-peque powered boats in the Amazon region.
