Dynamic Duo
Enrique Ortiz, Peru's most tenacious environmentalist and co-founder of the Amazon Conservation Association, and Bruce Babbit, former Secretary of the Interior under Bill Clinton, compare notes on a four-hour "ferry" up the Madre de Dios River in the Peruvian Amazon. Our group - John Poole and Lourdes Garcia Navarro, from National Public Radio, James Hider, the Middle East Bureau Chief for the Times of London, Ortiz, Babbit and myself covered hundreds of miles and dozens of ecosystems, by river, road and trail, over ten days.
